What is adaptive UX design, and how is it different from personalisation?

Adaptive UX design is an approach where variants of components, states, adjusts to each customer in real time using signals such as language, device, network, intent and accessibility. Rather than maintaining separate experiences, it serves the most relevant experience from a governed system of adaptive variants, continuously measured and improved in production. ONE CX extends your existing design system with adaptive capabilities and measures success through business outcomes such as activation, conversion and transactions.

Is adaptive UX the same as personalisation?

No. They work together, but they solve different problems. Personalisation decides what a customer sees offers, content and recommendations. Adaptive UX decides how they experience it, which interface, journey and components best suit their language, device, network, intent and context. They share the same customer signals and are most effective together. Without Adaptive UX, the right content can still be delivered through a frustrating experience. Without personalisation, even the best interface may present the wrong content. ONE CX combines both to deliver connected experiences that improve activation, conversion and customer satisfaction.

Does adaptive UX require AI?

No. The core of adaptive UX is decision logic, telemetry and a variant layer: rules and measurement, not a model. AI can sharpen the serving decision once enough signal has accumulated, and ONE CX adds it where it earns its place, but adaptation works, and pays back, on deterministic logic alone. You do not need to buy an AI platform to start.

Do we need data before the interface can adapt?

No. The first adaptation signals are ones every customer carries on arrival: language, device, network and accessibility need no history at all, and intent shows within the first interactions. Adaptive UX starts working from the first visit and sharpens as telemetry accumulates. If you want adaptation informed by identity and past behaviour, that is where a unified customer data foundation helps, and ONE CX builds that too, but it is a deepening, not a prerequisite.

Can adaptive UX work with our existing design system?

Yes, that is the intended starting point. Your existing design system becomes the baseline layer: the governed source of truth for brand, accessibility and consistency. ONE CX builds the variant layer on top of it rather than replacing it, and where the system has gaps, missing states, undocumented components, we close them as part of the build, because every variant a customer meets must trace back to a governed baseline.

Does adaptive UX replace experimentation?

No, they are siblings. Experimentation decides what to try: hypotheses, tests and evidence. Adaptive UX decides what each customer gets from what has already won: many proven versions, served by signal. The results flow both ways, experiments produce new variants worth serving, and serving telemetry shows where ONE CX should run the next experiment. One system of proof, two jobs.

How do you measure whether adaptive UX is working?

Every variant is measured against the baseline experience in production: conversion, task completion and drop-off, per version and per audience. A share of traffic keeps receiving the baseline, so the lift is attributable to adaptation rather than to seasonality or campaigns. Variants that beat the baseline for no one retire. ONE CX reports this as a running scorecard, not a one-time readout.

What about consent and DPDP?

Adaptation runs first on signals the customer presents, device, network, language, read to render the experience, not to profile the person. Where signals cross into personal data, behavioural history or identity, consent is checked before they are used, the same consent-before-activation rule ONE CX wires into every build. The serving logic stays auditable: which signals were read, which version served, under what consent state. That is DPDP-defensible by architecture, not by disclaimer.

How do you implement adaptive UX, and when will we see results?

Adaptive UX is layered onto what you already run. ONE CX starts from your design system, builds the variant layer on it, wires the signal read and serving logic, and instruments every serve against a baseline. The first adaptive components go live on one high-traffic journey, so results show inside the first quarter, measured as lift against the static baseline.
